Loaves and Fishes
Loaves and Fishes

Loafs and fishes thought of the month,

Hi, I want to tell you a story from the Bible about Jesus praying to the Father God.
Jesus asked the Father to help him to do special things because Jesus knew he needed heavenly power and not earthly power.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand,

When Jesus heard what had happened he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said "this is a remote place and it’s already getting late, Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food. Jesus replied "they do not need to go away, you give them something to eat". "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish", they answered. "Bring them here to me" Jesus said, and he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
You see, Jesus probably knew his disciples would not understand what he was about to do. Jesus’ disciples came to Him and asked "Shell we send the crowds home for their tea, as it was getting late". To their shock, Jesus said "get the crowds to sit down on the ground". Jesus asked if anybody had some food? The disciples must have thought Jesus was a bit mad. Why was He asking the disciples about food? Where were they going to find enough food to feed that amount of people? But what they did not understand was Jesus had heavenly power to make small things bigger. Jesus had faith in his father, and his father is our father, and he is the same now as he was back then.
Can you imagine how the disciples must have felt when the little boy stood up and walked forward and gave up his dinner of five loaves and two fishes? It was a bit of a shock really. The disciples nearly turned that little boy away but Jesus knew better and he said to the disciples bring the little boy here. The disciples must have thought what is Jesus going to do with only five loaves and two fishes? They must have wondered how just five loaves and two fishes would feed so many people. Jesus took the loaves and fishes from that little boy he lifted them up to heaven, and gave thanks to his heavenly father for the five loaves and two fishes. The disciples must have wondered what Jesus was going to do with just five loaves and two fishes. Now, just remember, in those days they did not count women and children. Only the men were counted, so there was more than five thousand people there. After Jesus gave thanks to his heavenly father, he asked his disciples to hand the food out to the crowd. Now, the disciples must have thought this little amount of food was not going to feed this many people. The disciples came back to Jesus and he kept giving them more food to give out. In the end all the crowd, the disciples and Jesus himself were full, and they had twelve baskets left over. So what did Jesus want us to learn from this story? As the Bible clearly tells us, Jesus said you can do far greater things than I.
I must tell you; we can do nothing without Jesus, but if we ask Jesus to help us do what He wants us to do, even if we try something totally mad, God can work through us.
